A Very Ordinary Guide To Extraordinary Lights - LED Tubes And Bulbs

LED tube lights are mostly used in office lighting, and LED bulbs are used for both indoor/outdoor lightings.

Designed to replace less efficient fluorescent tubes and incandescent bulbs, LED bulbs andLED tubes consume significantly less power while emitting a similarly bright light with better color rendering and more control over color temperature.

The lifetime of LED tube lights is much longer than fluorescents, some bulbs lasting up to 100,000 hours, meaning they burn out less frequently and require less maintenance.

The use of LEDs in those places pertains to the fact that LED lights are productivity-boosting lights. The biggest achievement of LED tubes lights or LED bulbs is its ability to mimic daylight while also offering exceptionally good efficiency.

Working Of An LED tube

An LED tube or bulb is not a single unit of light. When many little LED chips work together, a single LED tube or bulb shines. If you open an LED tube, you will find arrays of LED chips. Aluminum coverings on both ends connect the power supply to the LED chips. When many electroluminescent transitions happen, all the illuminations combine and result in a single one.

Also, these aluminum cap ends also function as the heatsinks, which is the reason that LED tubes do not get up heated at all.

Metal halides and high-pressure sodium lamps, on the other hand, have no heat sinks. With no heat sinks, a considerably large chunk of power is wasted in the form of heat. There is no temperature control in these lights. Metal halides take around 30 minutes to heat up and light.

What Is T in the T8 bulbs?

The nomenclature of these lights is interesting and conveys a lot of facts. T followed by the number in the tube names like in T5, T stands for tube, and the number indicates the diameter when divided by 8. The thicker the tube, the more expensive it gets. The thinner the tube, the more expensive it gets.

In December 2014, an energy-efficient alternative to fluorescent tube was invented. A standard for LED tubes (EN2776) that guarantees a safe replacement of the traditional T8 Fluorescent tube. They work well at great height installations, like offices, mechanic garages, and warehouses. All the LED tubes can easily replace fluorescent tubes. They are lesser on energy consumption and more on lumen output.

LED Tubes Come In Three Different Lengths

2 Foot LED Tubes:

2 ft LED tubes come with 8 watts of rating, and these are designed to replace 50-watts of capacity. Their small size makes them perfect for small-sized rooms.

4 Foot LED Tubes:

4 foot led tubes

4 ft LED tubes can easily replace in LED tube light fixture t8 4ft are used in medium-sized rooms and halls. They come in 3 different wattages-

Eighteen watts replace 40 watts fluorescent fixture, 20 watt replaces 50 watts of fluorescent light, and 22 watts replaces 60 watts.

This size of the LED tube is appropriate for medium-sized rooms where high lighting output is needed, but the availability of space is restricted. LED tubes in this size come in three different wattages.

8 Foot LED tubes:

With 8 ft of size, these lights are large and bright enough to light up big rooms and halls. Forty watts LED can replace 100 watts fluorescent, and 48 watts can replace 120 watts of fluorescent.

Types Of LED Tubes With Clarity Of Encasing

Based on the clarity of the casing, LED tubes are divided into two categories.

Clear- A clear LED tube is 40% brighter than the frosted one because there is no insulation on the coating. Clear tubes are so bright that sometimes they are too uncomfortable to the eyes. Clear tubes are bright enough to light up tunnels, parking lots, and many other places as well.

Frosted- Frosted tubes have an opaque coating over themselves, to screen the light intensity, and they succeed in doing so as well. These lights have a lumen output, which is 40% lesser than clear LED tubes. These lights are comfortable to look at, and they are used in offices, study rooms, and rest areas as well.

How Does Diode Of An LED Bulb Work?

A light-emitting diode works peculiarly. The LED consists of a metal strip with an array of LEDs arranged along it. For covering the entire lighting arrangement, a sapphire or glass made cover is used. These materials have great refractive and reflective properties, which disperse the light most directionally and uniformly possible. There is minimal interference and loss.

So that's the LED bulb working — properties of sapphire combined with ultra-efficient photoluminescent transitions resulting in great illumination and long life.

The LED is composed of a metal strip with a series of LEDs aligned along it. A transparent substrate, usually made from glass or sapphire materials, is used to cover the LEDs. This transparency allows the emitted light to disperse evenly and uniformly without any interference or light loss.

The division of LED bulbs is based on the base types and their usage in particular cases.

For the table lamps- Floor lamps and pendant lighting, A shape bulbs are available. This is the most commonly used base because it is one of the oldest bulbs as well.

For floodlights, spots, and accents, PAR bulbs are the best choices. If someone needs a high lumen output, some incorporate parabolic reflectors(parabolic aluminized reflector), which multiplies the output of the lumens by multiple reflections.

MR LED bulb or multi-faceted LED bulbs are used primarily for decorative purposes and is often found in entrances, lobbies, reception area, and hotel areas, etc.

Conclusion

Based on your lighting needs, you could go with any of these lights. A little research or an expert consultation can help you out. Experts’ suggestions can help make better buying decisions and utilize the existing resources to the fullest of its potential.
