What Do You Need To Know About LED Grow Lights?

LED grow lights have grown quite popular in the LED lighting industry. These lights are eligible in the agriculture sector as they help with the growth of plants. An artificial set-up is built inside the premises where the seeds are planted in the soil for the natural agriculture phenomenon. Like a typical process, the seeds are planted and grown in the same way. However, the process is slightly different as instead of natural sunlight, and the crops obtain energy from an artificial source, i.e., LED grow lights.

The heat that emits from the LED grow lights are ideal for providing a natural sunlight environment for the plants to grow. You can select a suitable light that will emit from the grow lights to make sure that it is adequate for the plant’s growth.

What are some types of grow lights?

What are some types of grow lights?

There are generally four major types of grow lights namely, fluorescent, HID (High Intensity Discharge), incandescent, and LED (Light Emitting Diode). Traditionally, HID, fluorescent, and incandescent lights were used as a medium for plant growth. Unfortunately, there were several limitations of these lighting types. For instance, incandescent bulbs are cost-efficient, but they tend to emit enormous amounts of heat and are not efficient from a power consumption perspective. HID lights were quite expensive, and they also consumed energy pretty much. Not just that, the HID bulbs need to be changed after a specific time in order to get the right spectrum light. Although, fluorescent grow lights were quite appropriate as grow lights because they were energy-efficient. But, they have some limitations too.

Considering all these light types had some limitations, LED grow lights are one of the best alternatives to other grow lights as they are the most suitable light. It encourages the growth of plants without emitting hazardous compounds to the environment. The efficient qualities of LED grow lights are what make them ideal for the plant’s growth. With a low heat emission, you have the comfort of placing them near the plants by maximizing their spectrum effect without worrying about harming the plants.

Moving on, LED grow lights don’t take much energy as they can aptly work in less wattage and are efficient in terms of consuming energy. Adding to that, you are not supposed to change the bulb fixtures with LED lights.

Wavelengths in LED grow lights

Wavelengths in LED grow lights

The wavelengths of grow lights play an important role in the growth of plants. It creates an artificial photosynthesis ecosystem that produces 400-500nm wavelength with blue color lights and 600-700nm with red color lights. The light that ensures the plant's growth is called PAR, i.e., Photosynthetic Active Radiation. However, the red color lights are more suitable for artificial photosynthesis as it promotes the flowering stage in the plants. In comparison, the red light is apt for the growth part only. Adding to that, it is founded that UV and IR lights benefit the plant in terms of growth. Thus, grow lights include them in their wavelengths.

Maintenance of LED grow lights

It is necessary to ensure that the grow light is secured to avoid any uncertainties. Traditionally, conventional lights like HID and fluorescent used a voltage regulating device called the ballast. It helps in managing the current supply to operate the light efficiently. The ballast was easy to maintain as it did not require major cleaning. Cleaning them once a year and blowing off the dust was enough. Unfortunately, fluorescent, HID, and incandescent bulbs tend to lose their efficacy with time, and they are not as good as they were initially. It resulted in relentlessly changing the bulbs, which was quite troubling. Adding to that, a less effective bulb is basically useless because it is not apt for growing plants with adequate energy. Also, you were supposed to change the bulb from season to season.

Therefore, looking for a more suitable option is a must. This is why switching to LED grow lights was an excellent choice. They are ideal in terms of longevity, durability, wattage, usage, efficiency, etcetera. LED grow lights don’t lose their streak over a short period of time. It lasts longer compared to conventional grow lights. Maintaining them is pretty easy as they don’t require to change over every season. In fact, most LED grow lights come with a lifespan of more than 50,000 hours. Although the LED grow lights are easy to maintain, it is quite necessary to make sure that you are keeping them safe by cleaning off the dust. Doing so will enhance the longevity of the LED grow lights.

What is the right time to replace the LED grow bulbs?

It is a fact that LED grow bulbs last for a really long time. However, you should replace them after a while. Doing so will help in increasing the productivity of the plants. Thus, changing the LED grow bulb every harvest season or every 10 months is highly recommended.

Overview of LED grow lights

LED grow lights are highly efficient for enhancing plant growth. Ou can create an LED gro light set-up on a large scale indoors. They glow with a full spectrum, ensuring that the plants are getting an adequate atmosphere for all the stages, including the queasy phases like vegetative and flowering phases.

Moving forward, the LED grow lights are apt for commercial agriculture purposes. Plus, a dimmable feature allows you to adjust the lighting effect for better and eminent plant growth. Moreover, the LED grow lights are long-lasting and efficient and come with ETL and DLC certifications. Also, the IP-65 rating makes them durable by ensuring that they don’t compromise their performance due to dust and water.
