What Does LED Lighting Certification Means?

We are surrounded by electronics, whether its appliances, smartphones, gadget or lighting fixture. We always make sure that we select the best gadgets for ourselves and use it for the long term. While choosing the lighting fixture, we look for its lighting output, lumen output, color temperature, and it’s energy consumption.

Apart from the lighting features, you should always check the certifications. The lighting industry is rapidly growing and always come up with new and advanced illumination technology but which one to trust. Certifications work to build a customer trust on that particular product and company as well.

Most of us are unaware of the lighting fixtures’ certification. In this article, we have explained some of the certifications down below:

  • cULus Listed & Certification
  • cETLus Certification
  • DLC Certification
  • Energy Star Certification
  • FCC Listed
  • RoHS Certified

    cULus Listed & Certification

cULus specifies that the product is certified for two states: Canada and the United States. This certification identifies that the product is safe to use or not. With this certification, the product doesn’t short circuit and not even catch fire while operating. Before any product will be certified by this UL (Underwriter Laboratories) certification, it needs to pass the whole testing procedure. The purpose of the certification is to mark the product as a safer lighting device.

That particular product needs to pass the NRTL (National Recognized Testing Laboratory) test and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) where the product will be certified as the safe to use at any application.

    cETLus Certification

The ETL (Edison Testing Laboratories) ensures that the electronic product must take a stand for its performance, compatibility, and safety measures. This certification identifies that the device performs well and doesn’t get fuse while it’s operational period.

Before you buy any lighting device, you must check the ETL mark on the product. It does not end at an ETL certification being provided by the lighting manufacturer at once. The products being manufactured match the customer requirements and fulfill their lighting desires.

    DLC Certification

DLC (Design Lights Consortium) provides the badges to the LED lighting product companies to meet the certain guidelines that aimed towards better performance. You can stay assured about using energy-efficient products while installing and operating them at the commercial units.

In collaboration with energy efficiency program members, manufacturers, lighting, state, and local entities, DLC certified product are the most safer to use. To achieve a DLC badge, the products need to pass many tests and meeting the criterion which is a tough job. The product should have the lifespan more than 50,000 hours at low maintenance.

DLC certified products are the sole mark of providing high-performing and efficient commercial-grade lighting. Rebates and discount incentives can help to customer to increase program-participation on a large scale.

     Energy Star Certification

Energy Star certification symbolized that lighting product is energy-efficient for the residential grade. To get the ES mark on the product, it needs to go through the product testing scenario based on the stringent tests.

The product must earn the label of (ES) Energy Star to pass the product-testing scenario. When you buy the ES certified product, you are not just buying the product, you will get paid for investing in eco-friendly products through rebates and incentives.

So it is more beneficial that people should switch more to LED lighting products because they have offers benefits like the rebate. However, Energy Star certified lighting products are rebate eligible. P.S. - different state governments follow different guidelines for the rebates.

    FCC Listed

The FCC certification in full mean is the Federal Communication Commission which is established in the 1934 year. To meet the required attenuation of unwanted emissions & extend compliance testing beyond the range guidance. It is an independent agency which directly responds to the ruling party in order to coordinate with national and international communication.

    RoHS Certified

This is a very crucial certification in ensuring the encapsulation of the LED lighting products. The full form of this certification is “Restriction of the use of Hazardous Substances”. RoHS certified products don’t exceed the higher level of restricted materials such as lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, and polybrominated diphenyl ethers.

These are the harmful components which pollute the landfill and dangerous in the terms of occupational exposures during recycling and manufacturing.

    At a Glance

All of the above-mentioned certifications create a safer LED Lighting product which offers infinite benefits to the customers. These certified products are energy-efficient, cost-efficient, rebate-eligible, non-toxic, eco-friendly, and better to perform as compared to fluorescent, metal halide, sodium vapor lighting fixtures.
